Gini,
It's November, which means holiday season is officially upon us! November 1st also marked the start of Native American Heritage Month. This year's theme is "Celebrating Tribal Sovereignty and Identity." Be sure to follow along on our social media channels as we spotlight Native Americans who are working towards a better food system for us all. The start of November also means that Giving Tuesday is almost here! We hope you'll join us on November 28th to honor this global day of giving back. Keep an eye out for a big announcement about our most important giving day. And in the meantime, we hope you'll add this invite to your calendar for an extra reminder. During this time of giving back, we're especially grateful for supporters like you, Gini. Thank you for helping us connect individuals and families across the country to good food. These food distribution programs are a key part of our nation's social safety net, and ensure that those in need, including low-income children, adults, seniors, and Native Americans, get access to nutritious food. | | | As an organization fighting for food equity, PHA supports the USDA's goal of increasing access and parity within the food distribution programs, and believes that overall the proposed changes would represent major strides in equitable access for Americans living with limited incomes to nutritious foods. We are especially pleased to see the inclusion of Native American voices in these proposed changes, as it relates to The Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR). Read our full public comment to learn more about the proposed changes. | | | The Good Food Movement, Coast to Coast | | The PHA team was featured as access to nutritious food took center stage at three important events across the country in October. From the American Academy of Pediatrics annual conference in Washington, DC; the Mississippi Hunger Summit in Oxford, MS; to Anaheim, CA for the Global Produce and Floral Show, the PHA team was spreading the message of good food. | | | Here's what we shared: - Amy Warne, MBA, RD/LD, Manager of Nutrition and Health Programs exhibited at the American Academy of Pediatrics Annual Conference, attended by more than 15,000 clinicians. PHA featured its Veggies Early & Often First Foods guides.
- Tyler Yarbrough, Manager of Mississippi Delta Programs presented at the Mississippi Hunger Summit alongside Delta farmers, and discussed the pivotal role local farmers play in food and nutrition security.
- Jason Wilson, Head of Communications moderated a panel at the Global Produce and Floral Show, attended by more than 20,000 key representatives of the fresh produce industry. The panel featured experts from distributors, growers and even PHA program partners talking about innovating to increase consumption of produce. You can watch the panel discussion here.
As a leader in the good food movement, it's vital that we share insights and information to partners and collaborators across sectors in the fight to ensure every family, no matter their zip code, has access to food that helps them thrive. Please let us know if there's an event or conference that you think we should attend. | | | | November Recipe of the Month | | We hope you enjoy our recipe of the month, Southwest Turkey 'Tato Skins — they're simple to make, and once you add toppings, become a satisfying mini-meal for your family or guests. They're crispy, cheesy, vegetable-y, and downright irresistible. We recommend using your Thanksgiving leftovers to make this yummy dish. | | | | As a part of our work to break down barriers to accessing healthy food, we're providing fresh produce like onions, peppers, and corn to families in need. If you like what you taste, we hope you'll check out all our recipes on our Recipe Hub. Thank you for supporting good food for all, The PHA Team | | | | | |
