Advancing Food Equity in the Mississippi Delta

Stakeholders in the MS Delta

🌱 In partnership with the Mississippi Delta community, we're transforming the local food system in pursuit of health equity.

πŸ™ŒπŸ½ We're excited to work with local stakeholders to increase the affordability, accessibility, and visibility of fruits and vegetables in the Delta through community-centered change focused on empowering young people.

This work is supported by a three-year grant from Novo Nordisk to advance regional Food Equity.

Good Food for All in St. Louis

Good Food for Al in St. Louis

🍎 Good Food for All in St. Louis has provided 1.8 million servings of fresh fruits and vegetables to 3,000 local families in partnership with Gateway Region YMCA and Ole Tyme Produce.

πŸ₯£ Did you know that rates of food insecurity increase during the summer months when school lunches are unavailable? Good Food for All aimed to bridge this gap in St. Louis by providing produce boxes to families during the 12 weeks of summer break and when food costs are rising due to inflation.

Recipe of the Month: Rainbow Noodle Salad

Let's make Rainbow Noodle Salad

🌈 We hope you enjoy this recipe for Rainbow Noodle Salad. This chilled salad recipe includes a peanut dressing and a rainbow of colorful vegetables, including cabbage and bell peppers. Feel free to swap peanuts for any allergy-friendly nut or seed.

We're providing fresh produce - like cabbage and bell peppers - to families that face barriers to accessing healthy food as part of our work to fight for Food Equity. We're currently distributing boxes in St. Louis, MO in coordination with Gateway Area YMCA.

White House Conference: Moving our Food System Towards Equity

White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health

πŸ“– The first and only White House Conference on Food, Nutrition, and Health was held in 1969. More than 1,400 nutrition and food assistance programs and recommendations were implemented or improved as a result - including programs like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), and the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).

❗It's time for another big step forward. That's why the White House is hosting the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health in September!

πŸ’‘The goal is to end hunger and increase healthy eating and physical activity by 2030, so that fewer Americans experience diet-related diseases like diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. We are thrilled by all of the possibilities of this conference because it ties to the work that PHA is doing every day to fight for Food Equity. Keep an eye out for updates coming out of this conference!
