PHA is thrilled to announce Noreen Springstead as the organization's new President and CEO. She began her role with PHA on February 1, 2023 after serving as the Executive Director of WhyHunger for eight years, where she focused on providing critical resources to support grassroots movements to end hunger and advance the human right to nutritious food in over 30 countries. Noreen has over three decades of experience in the hunger space and is skilled at building long-term strategic partnerships and known for her ability to connect with teams, partners, and supporters to create positive impact. She is a graduate of Rutgers University, is frequently called upon as a thought leader to discuss the hunger crisis, and was named one of the most powerful changemakers by SHAPE magazine in 2019 and a Notable Non-Profit leader by CRAIN'S New York Business in 2021. Noreen succeeds Nancy E. Roman, who joined PHA in 2017 following an international career spanning journalism, business, and public service with the U.S. government and the United Nations. We're thrilled to welcome Noreen to the team and we hope you'll take a moment to learn more about her here. |

PHA Supports USDA's Proposed Changes to WIC |
|
More than 6 million moms, babies and young children participate in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, known as WIC. WIC provides nutritious food to families and advances maternal and child health, helping mothers, babies, and young kids thrive. The USDA announced proposed changes to the foods prescribed to participants in WIC aimed at strengthening the program by ensuring it provides foods that reflect the latest nutrition science to support healthy eating and bright futures. As a leader in the fight for Food Equity and convener of first food champions through our Veggies Early & Often work, PHA is encouraged by USDA's updated WIC Food Package proposed rule. We believe it has the strong potential to improve the food landscape for the nation's youngest eaters with more quantity and variety of nutrient-dense produce. Learn more about WIC, the proposed updates, and our public comment here. |
