How Charmaine gives back to her community

Hi Gini,

Charmaine was born and raised in New Orleans but it was her pride for and commitment to her community that led her to want to give back.

As the Health & Wellness Coordinator at her local community center, Charmaine worked with the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) team to help bring the Good Food for All program to her neighborhood. The program provided New Orleans residents with boxes of fresh produce every week for 12 weeks.

Charmaine also participated in the program herself - and the program helped her and her son kick off their health journey together.

This program made a long-lasting impact on Charmaine because it allowed her to be adventurous and try new and high-quality foods. The box also provided Charmaine with the opportunity to connect with her teenage son about eating a healthier diet.

Charmaine's story is shared by so many of the more than 20,000 families that we connected to fresh produce in the last year. Thanks to generous supporters like you, we've been able to provide more than 18 million servings of fruits and vegetables to people in 28 cities in the last year.

I hope you'll take five minutes to learn more about stories like Charmaine's by watching this short documentary about the impact that fresh produce can have on communities.

This is just the beginning of PHA's work to create long-lasting change in partnership with communities around the country. Your support of this important work helps bring access to good food to everyone, in every zip code.

Gini, I’d like to tell you about Joanna

"I thought I was signing up for a box of food, but it turned out to be a lot more."

- Joanna, A Good Food for All recipient in Detroit

Gini,

Let me tell you about Joanna.

Joanna and her family participated in the Good Food for All program in Detroit, Michigan. They received 12 weeks of produce boxes that helped their family connect with each other and commit to healthier eating.

Joanna was connected to the program during a time of uncertainty.

"We had to commit to a change in lifestyle. I didn't want my husband to have another heart attack. The box came at a really good time when we were in the midst of some turmoil over our food."

Good Food for All made it easier for Joanna and her family to eat healthier by giving them regular access to fresh fruits and vegetables. The boxes also provided Joanna and her family with a few unexpected surprises, like the opportunity to spend quality time with her family.

"When I gave my kids new things, there was a sense of adventure with food. My kids were surprised to learn they liked squash. My kids are now veggie snobs."

Even though the program has now ended in Detroit, Joanna continues to prepare a new recipe each week and encourages her kids to try things they don't think they like.

Joanna's story is just one of the many stories shared by the more than 20,000 families we connected to fresh produce through the Good Food for All program in the last year. We distributed more than 18 million servings of fruits and vegetables in 28 states.

Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is fighting for Food Equity every single day. Programs like this are just the beginning of our work to create long-lasting change in partnership with communities in need.

Please, consider making a gift now to support this important work and help us ensure that everyone, in every zip code, has access to good food.

Gratefully,
