Your April PHA Update

This month from PHA

Hi Gini,

With April's warmer weather, the PHA team is starting to think about the gardens growing and fresh vegetables popping up. It's been another busy month for our team:

  • Our President & CEO, Noreen Springstead attended an event to note all the progress made in the six months since the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition & Health. There, the White House kicked off a new challenge to make ending hunger and diet-related disease a reality by 2030.
  • The results of our Healthy Hunger Relief Index were featured in a Food Bank News article. The index is helping food banks evaluate how their nutrition policies compare and help them build out strategies for improvement.
  • Last month, we celebrated our Good Food for All work in Indianapolis, where we're providing fresh produce to families that face barriers to accessing healthy food. Watch the video below to learn more about how we're helping families make healthy choices.

The April recipe of the month is Lemon Dijon Carrot Ribbon Salad. We hope you'll try it out and continue reading for all the latest updates in the Food Equity movement.

Thank you for standing with us,

The Partnership for a Healthier America Team

An Update on our Progress

We're leading the charge in the fight for food equity

PHA President & CEO, Noreen Springstead attends the latest White House event.

On March 24, the White House held an event where the Administration revealed advancements made since the Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health in September.

PHA has made significant progress since the conference, including adding 13 of the 100 additional servings of produce to the market we committed to last September. Read more about our progress in the last six months.

PHA's fight for food equity is directly in line with the goals of the White House Challenge to End Hunger and Build Healthy Communities. We are so excited that the Administration's support is helping to build momentum for the food equity movement. This is just the beginning of the fight for good food for all!

READ ABOUT THE REPORT

The Healthy Hunger Relief Index is a tool helping our food bank partners make lasting health-focused organizational change. The index includes an internal survey and a personalized progress report to help food banks get closer to achieving food equity.

We recently released our 2022 Healthy Hunger Relief Index, an assessment of the aggregated data. Check out this Food Bank News article to learn more about what we found and how the index is helping food banks improve their nutrition policies.

[VIDEO] Celebrating Good Food for All

In March, the Mayor of Indianapolis, Joe Hogsett, and our partners joined us to celebrate the launch of the newest phase of our Good Food for All work in the city, where we're providing fresh produce to families that face barriers to accessing healthy food.

We're well into the second phase of our Indianapolis work that gives families the flexibility to choose the healthy, delicious options that are best for them. Watch this video to learn more.

We believe everyone deserves access to good food. If you agree and haven't already, please take a moment to sign the Food Equity pledge — and join the thousands of people standing together to support a better food future.
