“I’ve been here my whole life”

Gini,

Many residents in the Mississippi Delta — the northwest section of the state — have limited access to fresh, affordable food that supports healthy eating.

At Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA), we're working with the community to change that. So today, I'd like to introduce you to someone who knows about food inequity in the Delta first-hand, Tyler Yarbrough.

From left to right: Al Jones, owner of Al's Grocery, a local store in Clarksdale, MS; Al's wife, Mary Jones; PHA team member Doris Haynes Miller; and Tyler Yarbrough, who was born and raised in Clarksdale, and is working with Al to make J's Grocery a hub for long-lasting, good food in their community.

"I've been here my whole life so I live it," Tyler says. "I see it. I feel it."

Tyler is working with PHA to increase the affordability, accessibility, and visibility of vegetables and fruit through community-centered change.

Tyler noted that PHA is taking time to understand the needs of the community — bringing together local and national experts to create a grassroots, Food Equity movement in the region. "There's so much great work already happening in the Delta," Tyler explains. "My job is to bring people together to elevate and celebrate that work."

We're so grateful for people like Tyler who are helping us create access to good food in their communities. But we also thank YOU for being a part of our movement.

Your support drives our work in the Mississippi Delta and all around the country, where changemakers like Tyler are building a better food future.

With gratitude,
